How It Will Work

The current plans for a more walkable and liveable DVRC include a shared-space vision where at least one lane of the road will be open to vehicluar traffic for loading/unloading and crucial deliveries. The other side of the road will be significantly widened for pedestrian and event use, barriers will be removed and pedestrians will be able to interact freely with trams. Greening and streetscape improvements such as public seating, will enhance the pedestrian experience and promote walkability as an alternative to cars. Rigorous street management will ensure the needs and concerns of the community at large are met. A one-day trial in September 2016 proved that the closure of DVRC to most traffic can, indeed, be successfully accomplished.
